From the outset, our goal was ambitious: to develop an AI-driven coding assistant that doesn’t just provide suggestions but actively understands and improves software repositories in a human-like manner. Inspired by leading tools and AI advancements, we knew that to achieve real impact, our system needed to be more than just a static code analyzer—it needed to think and act like a skilled engineer.
At the core of Syntheo’s intelligence are two powerful modules:
These two components form the backbone of Syntheo’s capabilities, making it a truly autonomous AI for software engineering.
Developing an AI system that can understand, reason, and modify codebases posed several significant challenges. Our engineering team tackled these hurdles through continuous iteration and innovation.
Early versions of Syntheo struggled with large-scale repositories. Many AI-powered tools fail when faced with extensive codebases due to memory constraints and lack of contextual understanding. We addressed this by implementing graph-based representations that allowed Syntheo to track dependencies, function calls, and data flows efficiently.
Refactoring and bug-fixing require deep contextual awareness. Many AI coding assistants can generate snippets, but ensuring those changes integrate seamlessly with the existing code was a major hurdle. By training CodeReason on thousands of real-world bug-fix patterns, we drastically improved its reasoning capabilities, allowing it to recommend precise, maintainable changes.
Balancing speed, accuracy, and resource consumption is crucial in AI-driven software engineering. We optimized Syntheo’s pipeline to process repositories at near-real-time speeds without compromising the depth of its analysis. This required fine-tuning our AI models, implementing caching mechanisms, and leveraging parallel processing.
Software evolves rapidly, and so must AI systems. One of our key advancements was making Syntheo self-improving—it learns from its own past interactions, continuously refining its strategies for future tasks. This dynamic adaptability ensures it remains effective even as new coding paradigms emerge.
After months of rigorous testing, fine-tuning, and benchmarking, Syntheo finally reached 56% on SWE Bench Lite. This achievement is more than just a number—it validates our belief that AI can transform software engineering by automating tedious, complex tasks while enhancing human productivity.
Syntheo’s score is the highest recorded on SWE Bench Lite to date, proving that our hybrid approach of RepoVision + CodeReason is pushing the boundaries of AI-driven development.
While reaching 56% is a major milestone, we are already working on the next set of improvements:
